Paintdeck

Recently I had to give a presentation at work about the new animation engine in our Editor. Lately, like probably everyone else, I've been bombarded with AI slop: posts, docs and presentations. You can always tell, it’s too much text everywhere and they look very generic most of the time. And bundle it with a presenter that doesn’t always know what they are presenting, because they didn’t make it.

So I solved the AI slop problem with some AI slop; I built an MS Paint slide tool, so I could spend way more time than necessary making a presentation that looks worse than what AI makes. But at least it has a human heart.

The Paintdeck editor, looking a lot like MS Paint on Windows XP

Paintdeck is MS Paint from Windows XP, except every slide is its own canvas with a 1080p resolution. You have all the classic tools (love me a paint bucket), the restricted colour palette, and everything you draw becomes part of the canvas; no moving things around once they're placed.

When you are done you can enter fullscreen and present as normal. You can even draw live by pressing D, so you can “laser point” at things to emphasise them.

A slide that says "This presentation is human made. No AI slop."

The one thing I added that MS Paint never had is GIFs, because I love stupid GIFs. It allowed me to add extra humour, and also show off things animated in the Editor.

The whole thing is just a single HTML page, so you can also run it offline from a USB stick if you want. Perfect for presentations.

It was all slopped together by Claude in like 30 minutes. I built the presentation by hand in a little over an hour. Software made by AI, presentation made 100% by a human. Every wobbly line, drawn with a mouse.
